입 냄새 심해지고 충치 등 발생
　

입 마름은 가볍게 여길 수 있는 증상 같지만 결코 그렇지 않다. 일시적으로 입이 마르는 것이 아니라 하루 종일 입 마름이 지속될 경우엔 더욱 그렇다. 입 마름은 젊은 사람보다 나이든 노인에게 잘 발생한다. 전신적인 질환이나 구강 질환에 의한 경우도 있으나 특별한 질환이 없이도 입 마름 즉 구강건조증으로 불편을 겪는 노인들이 의외로 많다.
　

◆구강건조증의 원인=

연령이 높아질수록 침샘에서 침을 생산하는 조직이 감소하고, 침샘에 보관되는 침의 양도 줄어들게 되어, 안정 시에 분비되는 침의 양 또한 줄어들게 된다. 노인층에서 구강건조증이 많이 발생하는 이유를 이와 관련 지어 생각해볼 수 있다.
　

하지만 구강건조증 환자에서 실제로 침샘의 기능저하가 있는 경우는 50%정도 선이기 때문에 다른 복합적인 원인도 고려해볼 필요가 있다. 또 나이 드는 것 자체만으로 구강건조증의 원인을 설명하기에는 논란이 많다는 것도 생각해 보아야 한다. 그렇다면 구강건조증의 원인을 어디에서 찾을 수 있을까. 몸속 수분 양 감소, 그리고 각종 약제의 복용에서 그 원인을 찾을 수 있다.
　

나이가 고령화될수록 각종 성인병에 걸리기 쉽고 그에 따라 복용하는 약물이 많아지는데, 복용 약물 중 당뇨 등의 질환과 관련된 약제나 이뇨제 등을 포함하는 고혈압 약, 항히스타민제, 항우울증약 등의 정신과 약물들이 있을 경우 침의 분비가 줄어들어 구강건조증이 발생할 수 있다. 또한 침샘의 질환이나, 전신적인 질환 즉, 당뇨병, 파킨슨병, 쇼그렌증후군 등 특정 질환과 관련해서도 구강 건조증이 나타날 수 있다.
　

◆구강건조증의 증상=

보통 1분간 분비되는 침의 양이 0.1㎖이하이면 구강건조증으로 진단한다. 침 분비량에 대한 검사는 타액선 스캔이나, 타액선 조영술 등을 통해 간단히 시행할 수 있다. 그러나 그 결과와 증상의 심한 정도가 반드시 일치하는 것은 아니다.
　

야간 수면 중에는 침의 분비가 줄어들게 되는데 구강건조증 환자의 경우 그 증상이 더욱 심해져 단잠을 깨고 물을 마셔야 하는 불편함을 겪게 된다. 뿐만 아니라 구강건조증이 지속되면 침의 세정작용이 적어져, 입 냄새가 심해지고, 충치나 치주염 등이 잘 생길 수 있다는 문제가 있다. 또한 음식물에 들어있는 성분들을 녹여 맛을 느끼게 하는 작용이 떨어지기 때문에 음식 맛이 이상하게 여겨지거나 맛을 제대로 못 느끼는 것도 구강건조증의 증상이다.
　

◆구강건조증 개선책=

입 마름이 심할 경우엔 하루에 물을 1.5~2ℓ이상 많이 마시는 것이 좋다. 신맛이 많이 나는 과일이나 음식을 자주 먹는 것과 식사할 때 음식을 오래 씹어 침의 분비가 충분히 일어나도록 하는 것도 도움이 된다. 그리고 침샘을 마사지하는 것도 도움이 된다.
　

◆약물적인 치료법=

인공타액을 사용할 수 있다. 인공타액은 물보다 입안의 보습효과가 강하여 좀 더 오래 입 마름 증상을 감소시킨다. 또한 필로카핀이라는 침 분비를 자극하는 약물을 사용할 수 있다. 하지만 약을 복용하는 시기만 침 분비를 증가시켜 근본적인 치료라곤 볼 수 없다.  

요즘 허리 통증을 겪는 사람이 많다.

지레짐작으로 약국에서 파스를 구입해 붙이지만 요통은 나아질 기미가 없다. 허리 통증은 다양한 원인에 의해 생긴다. 척추 관련 질환이 큰 원인이지만 기침이나 정신적 불안감도 허리 통증을 유발할 수 있다. 허리는 크게 뼈, 추간반, 근육, 신경, 인대로 이뤄져 있다. 허리 곳곳에는 통증을 인지하는 신경이 분포하고 있다. 여러 가지 이유로 이 신경이 자극을 받으면 통증이 생기는 것이다.
　

◆마음이 원인=

요즘 스트레스에 짓눌려 생활하는 사람이 많다. 마음의 병을 앓고 있는 것이다. 정신적 불안감, 우울증, 신경증, 보상 심리 등이다. 연세대 세브란스병원에 따르면 허리 통증은 마음에서도 비롯될 수 있다. 심리적으로 늘 불안한 사람은 요통을 겪을 수도 있다.
　

◆흡연=

일상생활에서 기침을 하다가 허리가 아픈 경우가 많다. 기침을 할 때 허리에 무리를 주기 때문이다. 흡연을 하는 사람은 기침에 취약하기 마련이다. 자주 기침을 하게 되면 허리 압박이 지속되면서 요통이 뒤따른다.
　

◆비만=

비만은 만병의 근원이지만 요통도 유발한다. 과다 체중으로 인해 허리가 부담해야 할 무게도 늘어난다. 퇴행성 변화가 촉진되는 것이다. 허리 건강을 위해서는 살을 빼는 것이 좋다.
　

◆직업도 변수=

공사 현장에서 압착기를 다루는 사람처럼 지속적인 진동에 노출되는 사람은 허리에 진동이 전달돼 퇴행성 변화가 촉진된다. 자동차에서 발생하는 진동도 허리에 좋지 않다. 무거운 물건을 나르는 직업을 가진 사람은 특히 조심해야 한다. 허리는 무게를 지탱하는 부위이므로 여기에 계속 심한 압력이 가해지면 통증이 일어난다.
　

◆척추 건강=

뼈가 원인인 척추 협착증, 척추 골절, 척추 결핵, 척추 감염, 척추 종양, 골다공증, 척추 측만증, 강직성 척추염 등은 당연히 요통을 유발한다. 인대나 추간반이 원인인 급성 및 만성 염좌, 추간반 내장증, 추간반 탈출증, 불안정성 척추증, 천장관절 증후군도 허리 통증이 생기게 한다.
　

◆내장 장기=

비뇨 생식기나 골반 내 장기에 병이 생기면 후복막을 자극해 요통을 유발할 수 있다. 다른 부위에 이상이 없는데 허리가 아프면 내장 장기를 살펴봐야 한다.
　

◆혈관 및 척수=

대동맥이나 장골동맥의 폐쇄, 동맥류, 박리성 동맥류도 요통의 원인이다. 척수에 감염이나 종양이 생겨도 허리 통증을 겪을 수 있다.

◆불평을 털어놓자=

불만족은 창조의 근원이 될 수 있다. 미국 라이스대학교 연구팀은 굴착 장비 직원 149명에게 일에 대한 만족도를 묻고 이들의 상사에게 각 직원의 업무 능력을 확인했다. 그 결과, 불평하는 직원일수록 더 창조적으로 일하는 것으로 나타났다. 미국 경영학 회보에 실린 이 연구결과는 내면의 불평이 새로운 시작을 이끌 수 있음을 시사하고 있다.
　

◆마음을 풀어 헤치자=

최근 연구에 따르면 무방비 상태일 때 창조적 생각을 하게 되는 것으로 나타났다. 영국 런던대학교 연구팀에 의하면 뇌는 쉬고 있을 때 창조적 생각을 한다. 연구팀이 일반인에게 단어 퍼즐을 풀게 하면서 뇌파를 촬영한 결과 뇌의 초점이 맞지 않았을 때 더 창조적으로 퍼즐을 푼다는 사실이 확인됐다.
　

◆양손을 써라=

음악은 스트레스를 해소시킬 뿐 아니라 뇌 발달도 도와준다. 미국 밴더빌트대학교 연구팀은 피아노를 연주하는 사람이 그렇지 않는 사람보다 업무 수행 능력이 더 좋다는 것을 실험으로 밝혔다. 꼭 피아노 연주가 아니더라도 양손을 쓰는 동작은 오른쪽 뇌와 왼쪽 뇌를 모두 쓰게 해 창조력을 높이는 것으로 나타났다.
　

◆주변을 파란 색으로 채우자=

파란색은 창조적인 생각을 불러일으킨다. 캐나다 브리티시컬럼비아대학교 연구팀이 빨간색과 파란색이 사람에 미치는 영향을 조사해 보니 빨강은 기억을 자극하고 파랑은 상상력을 자극하는 것으로 나타났다.
　

◆떠나자=

낯선 곳에 가야 새로운 생각이 떠오른다. 폴 고갱은 타히티 섬으로 가서 삶과 일이 바뀌었고, 헤밍웨이는 스페인에서 대작의 영감을 얻었다.
　

◆놀자=

노는 것은 잠과 마찬가지로 인간의 생물학적인 기본 상태 중 하나다. 놀이는 인간 삶의 중요한 부분이고 특이 어린 시절 충분히 노는 게 중요하다. 

염증, 여드름 발생 막아야

◆너무 짜거나 단 식품=

짜거나 단 음식은 피부 건강에 최대의 적으로 꼽힌다. 짜고 단 음식은 인슐린 생산을 급속하게 증가시키고 염증을 유발해 피부의 재생 능력을 저하시킨다.
　

◆흰 빵=

흰 빵이나 파스타, 케이크 같은 혈당지수가 높은 식품은 여드름을 증가시키는 원인이 된다. 이런 식품 대신 통곡물을 먹는 게 좋다. 통곡물에는 항산화제와 염증을 퇴치하는 성분이 풍부하게 들어있다.
　

◆튀김식품=

튀긴 음식은 신체 내부에도 좋지 않을 뿐만 아니라 피부에도 기름이 쌓이게 한다. 모낭이 기름과 죽은 피부 세포로 막힐 때 여드름이 발생한다. 또한 기름이 많은 음식은 세균을 우리 몸이나 피부에 갇히게 해 더 큰 질환을 발생시킬 수 있다.

Urban explorers in Detroit have stumbled across a a collection of sports cards thought to be worth more than $1million. The cards from the 1980s and 90s were left in an abandoned factory in the city. Each card is estimated to be worth between 99 cents and $5.99 but the sheer bulk of the discovery means the unusual treasure is worth a fortune. The sports cards technically belong to whoever owns the building or another company who paid to store them there. But with the building having been empty for decades, the cards are lying in limbo with only a handful of people knowing they are there.

First Lieutenant Kristen Griest, from Texas, one of the two women to pass Ranger School this week, said she hoped to influence the decision on whether to allow women into combat roles.

Griest will officially enter the history books tomorrow when she graduates from the elite Ranger School alongside Captain Shaye Haver tomorrow at Fort Benning, Georgia, along with 98 men who also passed the course. Griest added that completing the training had shows 'that we [women] can take the same stresses in training as men'.

In 2009, the same car was crashed into an electricity pole in Aberdeenshire, after the then owner Gareth Jones let a 'world famous racing driver' take it for a spin. Danso, from Slough, has now been fined £1,000 after being convicted of driving the car without due care and attention and driving without insurance. He was also handed nine points on his licence and ordered to pay £400 costs. He kept his job with the wealthy Chinese businessman, with whom he has worked for four years.

A four-star general's personal photos of the battlefields of France and Germany from World War II are being published for the first time, shedding new light on the bloodshed and violence that darkened Europe during the Nazi era. General Charles Day Palmer spent most of the war fighting on the Western Front, and took photos of the bombed-out cities and lifeless bodies he witnessed along his European march. After sitting in his personal files for years, the photos were shared for the first time by his grandson Daniel Palmer earlier this month, on the website Argunners.com .

The men were held on animal cruelty charges after a video filmed by a female friend was posted online showing them kicking the bear (bottom right) after ramming it with an Pajero SUV in Iturup, Russia. The recording also picked up on the men discussing plans to sexually assault it with a stick and knife it to death. The bear can be seen trapped under the vehicle with its paws sticking out (top right) before it manages to free itself and starts to destroy the car's tyres with its teeth and claws (left). The group are being investigated and could face up to six months in prison.

The arrest of a drug smuggler in scuba gear led to the discovery of a tunnel from Mexico that's partially underwater and ends in a canal. Evelio Padilla pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in San Diego to one count of possession of drugs with intent to distribute. Border Patrol agents said in court doc-uments that they discovered a soaked Padilla in a wetsuit next to the All-American Canal, about 7 miles east of Calexico, California, on April 25. Near him, they found a breathing tank with a 'rebreather' to prevent surface bubbles, and several vacuum-sealed and gift wrapped packages that held a total of 55 pounds of cocaine. That led to the discovery of the 150-foot-long tunnel, which began at a house in Mexicali, Mexico, and ended under the water of the canal.

중국항공공업그룹(AVIC)은 19일 시안 옌량(閻良)에서 신저우(新舟)700(영어명: MA700) 항공기 시장 발표회를 열었다. AVIC는 발표회에서 신형 터보프롭기 ‘신저우700’ 프로젝트의 시장 업무가 전면적으로 가동되었음을 발표하고, 현장에서 11곳의 해외 고객과 현장에서 185대의 주문을 체결했다. 이는 신저우700기종의 연구제작이 조만간 공정 발전 단계로 전환될 것임을 상징한다.

‘신저우700’은 AVIC가 새로 연구개발한 터보프롭기로 최대 순항능력은 시간당 637km, 최대 비행고도는 7620m이다. 이 기종은 800km 이내의 중등 운송량 시장의 지역 항공운송업무를 담당하고, 남북극과 칭짱고원을 제외한 고원, 고온 지역의 복잡한 비행환경과 빈번한 단거리 이착륙을 감당하는 것을 목표로 2013년 연구제작에 들어갔다.

계획에 따르면 신저우700은 2016년 부분조립을 완성하고, 2017년에는 전체조립을 완성해 첫 비행을 실시하며, 2019년에는 운항허가증명인 감항증명(airworthiness certificate)을 발급받아 고객에게 교부를 시작할 예정이다.

산시(陝西)성 안캉(安康)시 스취안(石泉)현 시가지 옛 거리에 한 부부가 운영하는 구치모(鼓氣饃) 가게가 있다. 이 음식점은 장사가 꽤 잘 돼 부부는 매일 새벽 4시부터 바쁜 하루를 시작한다.

 구치모는 스취안의 특색 있는 먹거리로 일반적인 사오빙(燒餅)과 만드는 방법과 굽는 방법이 약간 다르다. 구치모를 만드는 면은 발효면이 아닌 ‘생면(生麵)’을 쓴다. 모의 양쪽이 열을 받아 면심(麵心)이 팽창하면서 모는 바로 위로 부풀어 오르고, 구워진 뒤에는 한 면은 평평하고, 한 면은 부풀어 오른 둥근 모양의 ‘구치모’가 된다. 구워진 구치모는 황금색으로 겉은 바삭바삭하고 가운데는 부드럽다. 먹으면 향긋하고 바삭바삭하면서도 부드러운 독특한 별미를 선사한다.

 천젠신(陳建新)은 1980년대부터 구치모를 만들기 시작했다. 그때는 그녀 혼자서 구치모를 만들어 팔았다. 그녀는 하루에 개당 2마오짜리의 구치모 200여 개를 팔아 30여 위안어치의 매출을 올렸다고 한다. 남편 량차이스(梁彩仕)는 퇴직 후 부인의 구치모 가게에서 일하면서 부인에게 구치모 만드는 방법을 배웠다. 구치모를 만들어 생계를 유지하고 돈을 벌지만 그들의 자녀는 밖에 나가서 아르바이트를 할지언정 이 일을 하길 원치 않는다. 천젠신은 “젊은 사람들은 이런 고생을 견뎌낼 수 없다”고 말한다.

톈진항(天津港) 물류창고에 있던 맹독 성 물질이 폭발사고로 인해 대량 유출된 것으로 확인됐다. 톈진 시내를 흐르는 강에서는 물고기가 떼죽음을 당해 2차 피해에 대한 우려가 커지고 있다.
　

중국 언론의 보도에 따르면 톈진시(天津市) 허수산(何树山) 부시장은 지난 19일 열린 톈진항 폭발사고 정례브리핑에서 "사고 당시 물류창고에는 위험 화학물질 40여종이 보관돼 있었으며 이 중 시안화나트륨 등 맹독성 화학물질이 700톤 가량이었다"며 "시안화나트륨 150톤을 회수해 공장으로 돌려보냈으며 나머지는 폭발 중 소실된 것으로 보인다"고 밝혔다.
　

이에 따라 그간 현지 언론이 제기했던 맹독성 물질의 폭발로 인한 외부 유출은 사실로 확인됐다. 일명 '청산소다'로 알려진 시안화나트륨은 금속 도금, 광석 제련, 살충제 등에 사용되는 맹독성 물질이며 물과 반응해 생성되는 시안화수소는 독일 나치가 제2차 세계대전 때 학살용 독가스로 활용된 화학물질이다.
